First of all, I swear, I'm not an alcoholic. But, I do have my reward cocktail at the end of the day...well, most days. It's my favorite time of the day because [usually] I've accomplished something I can be proud of, the kids are in bed, and I'm in my pajamas watching my favorite show on DVR and not thinking about anything in particular. It is the most sane moment of my day, and I love it. Harlequin Girl. Magazine image, gesso, watercolor pencils, marker, pencil, pen, whatever else I could get my hands on. Happy Friday!
Today's post is dedicated to two really awesome fortunes I got in the past year. I saved them, and put them in this page. Here I'm toying with the idea of my destiny, and who I trust to write it. A fortune cookie typist? I don't think so. It's all me, baby!
It's mixed media, as always. Watercolor, colored pencil, pencil, collage, wire, ink pen. Wow. This is seriously digging into my teacher-planning time. I am handling it, but these take more time than I have lately. I thought, oh, I'll just fill in these two little boxes. Three hours later, they're done, but not very well. Oh well. Meanwhile, we're done with the annual art show at work, and it was exhausting. Everything feels like it should just wrap up, but we've still got lots of work to do to send the kids off this summer with meaningful direction. Now it feels like we don't have enough time until the end, where a couple months ago, it felt like May was forever away. Kind of like I feel tonight. Now I don't have enough time to get everything done. Oh, where does the time go?
Today's journal is a....self portrait, pencil. Doesn't look EXACTLY right, but it's one of the things I need to work on. So, Whoo-hoo, calling it "Daydreamer"
Today's piece is akin to my large work. Colllage of newspaper clippings of my work with gouache and colored pencil in primary triad color scheme.
So, today, I brought in these scrumptious cupcakes and had the kids put them in cello bags to draw. Tricky, but I think they'll handle it well. This cupcake was sitting on my desk all day, waiting for me to draw it. Vanilla cake, white frosting with shaved white chocolate. It looked too good to eat, but of course, that was all in my head. It went down just fine. My page today is dedicated to the realization I had that maybe I should back off. It's getting hot, and I know soon that it will be swimsuit season. So, farewell to my beloved cupcake. Graphite, collage with watercolor wash and marker.
1/100. First entry. Started at the beginning: the good ol' blind contour drawing. Of course, since school's still in session, I wasn't able to start it until 8:45 tonight, but dammit, I got it done! It will probably be revisited some other time, and then I'll add an updated photo. School's getting crazy--it's May afterall. We're ALL(the students and I) sick of each other. Can't wait for the fresh start of next year, but a year from now, we'll all be sick of each other again. Please feel free to comment. The more people I know are keeping an eye on me, the more likely I'll keep going. I know I'll slack off if I think no one's watching. :)
Tomorrow it begins. I've been prepping pages with various coats of gesso, watercolor, acrylic and other mysterious substances to get them ready. I don't want to have to think about that part when I get started. So, here's the goal: one page per day, no matter how tired or uninspired I am. It's going to take a lot more time than I think probably, so wish me luck. I will be posting them all right here, in all their glory. My art journal will be focusing on portraiture, hands and feet, and color theory as main themes (mostly because these are the things I really want to get better at). Here goes!!!
