Most boring background ever. I'm really gonna have to jazz this up! All it is is a little bit of tinted gesso through a stencil. I can do ANYTHING with this kind of setup! Here goes nothin! See finished product tomorrow y'all!
Not gonna lie, this isn't my fave page. It's the very first one of this first book of the 365 series though. So, I was trying to make it awesome and something that would be a good starter page for the book (I don't go in order). But I failed. I wish it was easier to read and more colorful. But, as I always do, I didn't have much of a plan and this is what I ended up with. And, I've told myself to just put everything up--the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Video link: https://youtu.be/trIyzyC-d0w There's nothing more scary or intimidating to me than the blank page or canvas. So, my way of getting over that scariness is to obliterate it. To show it who's boss. So, whether I slap, scrape, brush, flick, scrub, or stencil onto the blank page first, my only goal is to mess it up and take its power away. Then, I can comfortably approach the page with the feeling that "it's a mess! I simply can't mess it up any more than it is. Time to clean it up!" That's my approach, I never have a pre-conceived plan for any prepped page. I just have fun and try as many different ways to create chaos on each page. Very cathartic, you should try it!
Wow. This page was a doozy. I made some mistakes with the whole hitting record part of the video-making process and all the while I had no idea where it was heading until I was almost done. I don't typically turn to bible verses, but I thought this one was touching and something I need to remind myself of often. Although I am now alone in my art-ventures, I still have the support of people around me. The ones who call me or reach out to make sure that I know they're supporting me. The ones who ask questions and actually want to know what happened (although I don't LOVE talking about it) with my previous business. It has not been a fun 6 months--for all involved, including my family--but at this point, I can say I would not change a thing. Although I'm struggling to start over, I am glad to be. It will just make me stronger in the end.
Time-lapse video link: https://youtu.be/HCvPsjDKj4g Some watercolor random drippage for today's background work. Super simple, not much time today. Just spent about 3 hours catching up on grading things for school. Yikes!! Now I'm ready for a drink...or two...
Catch me back here tomorrow to see the video time lapse of what I am thinking of doing on this page. Practicing for a November art journal workshop that I'll be offering...just came to me looking at my vintage typewriter. Had fun with the patterned papers to make this little typewriter. Hope you like it!
Video link: https://youtu.be/Wz_qTK0InHI Fun little single page here. Just starting this one with a little stenciling in PINK--so totally me! Confession: Although people would't typically describe me as "girly," one of my favorite colors IS PINK. Don't know why, but it always has been. Not that I'm like Elle in Legally Blonde--I rarely WEAR pink ensembles--but I do enjoy a pink scarf, pink socks, etc. Little pops of it just make me happy. :)
Just a practice page for one of the November Art Journal pages I'll be teaching (honoring Veteran's Day). It worked out pretty well, but I will be honest, I was sweating the whole time, not sure if it would work out okay. Glad it did. I had fun with it.
Time lapse video of its completion is here: https://youtu.be/z6iBrMTO3-k Totally ran out of time to post this yesterday. After "teaching" at the high school, I rushed home to get my studio ready for last night's workshop. Then had to go to my son's soccer game (one of the last of the season) and rushed home to hold the workshop, then I totally crashed shortly thereafter. So, below is the video link to the finish of #13. I had to make viewfinders out of index cards for the kids at school. The window pieces that I popped out were strewn all over my studio, so I decided to use them to build a city. Inspired by one of my fave DMB songs: Dreaming Tree. Enjoy!
